About Risk Register
Risk Register was developed in conjunction with the North East Key Risk
Profiling Group, who agreed to make the software available to the wider
membership of the Association of Local Authority Risk Managers -
ALARM.
Risk Register is now available to any organisation looking for a
cost-effective risk assessment and management tool.
The North East Key Risk Profiling Group was set up as a result of Heather
Pearce (Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council) approaching Rob Rodgers (The St
Paul Insurance) with the idea of carrying out some work on Risk Profiling.
After some discussion it was decided to set up the group with the
neighbouring Authorities. The aim of the group was to share information and
workload for the production of the Risk Register.
Risk Register is industry standard PC software that
retains information on operational and strategic risk assessments carried
out in compliance with corporate governance requirements. It enables a
systematic strategy, framework and process for managing risk, as set out in
the CIPFA/SOLACE document ‘Corporate Governance in Local Government – a
Keystone for Community Governance’.
Risk Register will demonstrate to District Audit (or any other external
auditor) that an organisation has a risk management process in place which
records and ranks significant risks within their organisation. The Corporate
Performance Assessment programme, which is now underway, states that
Authorities must have a risk register in place and make progress to populate
this and review when necessary.
